WILBRAHAM — An officer struggling to management two shoplifting suspects at the House Depot on Boston Highway Wednesday afternoon drew his firearm just after 1 of the suspects grabbed the officer’s Taser and pointed it at him, police explained.
Wilbraham Police Capt. Shawn Baldwin explained the suspect who picked up the Taser did not discharge it, and dropped it and ran when the officer drew his sidearm and pointed it at him. He was taken into custody a quick distance absent, but the other suspect escaped.
Arrested was Jorge Luis Maldonado-Ramos, 34, of Hartford.
He is going through numerous rates including two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and a single rely of assault and battery with an try to disarm a law enforcement officer, assault with a unsafe weapon, a Taser, possession of a risky weapon, a Taser, resisting arrest and disorderly carry out.
He was also charged with larceny of extra than $1,200. Maldonado-Ramos is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Palmer District Courtroom. He was held Wednesday night on $25,000 bail heading into the arraignment.
Police did not disclose the name of the officer included in the incident.
When the officer arrived on scene just right before 3 p.m. for a report of shoplifting, Maldonado-Ramos and the other male were observed strolling out of the keep with a massive quantity of Romex wiring.
Baldwin explained there have been several reported thefts of wiring at Household Depots across Western Massachusetts and Connecticut by steel burglars. The wiring is qualified mainly because it is made up of copper that can be resold.
Baldwin explained the officer confronted the two gentlemen, and a wrestle ensued with the officer and the unknown suspect wrestling on the ground.
